Bookends is a professional reference management app available for iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. This app allows you to search various reputable sources such as Amazon, arXiv, Google Books, Google Scholar, JSTOR, the Library of Congress, PubMed, PubMed Central, and Web of Science. With Bookends, you can download references from these sources and store them in your personal library. PDFs can also be downloaded if you have access privileges.

The built-in browser feature allows you to conveniently access websites that are EZProxy compliant. Additionally, the app provides tools to help you organize your references by static or smart groups. You can easily annotate your PDFs directly within Bookends and send references through email in a suitable format for reading or importing into other reference management applications. Autofill options allow you to quickly retrieve references from the internet using DOIs or ISBNs. The app also includes a barcode scanning feature.

Bookends utilizes iCloud to synchronize all your libraries and attachments across iOS devices and with the Mac version of Bookends. This feature allows you to access your references and sources from anywhere - whether you're at your desk or on the go.

It is important to note that Bookends for iOS has some limitations if you do not make a Standard Version in-app purchase. Without this purchase, searches will only return a maximum of 20 references and you will only be able to store up to 50 references in your local database. Any PDFs that you annotate on the iOS device will be watermarked, and ads will also be displayed. To have full access without these limitations, an in-app purchase must be made.

For advanced features such as cloud sync of references and attachments, multi-library support, and unlimited barcode scans, you can acquire the Pro Features Yearly Subscription for an additional $9.99. This subscription is renewable on a yearly basis and can be managed through your iOS device's settings. If the subscription is not renewed, the Pro Features will be disabled.

It is important to mention that canceling the current subscription is not allowed during the active subscription period.
